Fun and creative design & styling for a stylish Bar Mitzvah
When it comes to Bar Mitzvahs, this one’s uber-cool theme of “Denim & Dazzle” was fantastic fun & incredibly stylish!
Joshua celebrated his Bar Mitzvah during Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. We incorporated this auspicious celebration into the “Denim & Dazzle” theme and the bespoke catering to ensure this propitious occasion was reflected in our design, styling and event details.
An unparalleled Cape Town venue with fabulous outdoor and indoor entertainment spaces
The Argyle, only recently restored to its previous grandeur, used to be one of the oldest synagogues in Cape Town, was the perfect venue for a stylish and fun indoor and outdoor celebration.
As The Argyle is an entirely blank canvas venue, Boutique Concepts had creative freedom to curate a uniquely tailored celebration for both adults and children of varied ages. The venues’ beautiful outdoor “Secret Courtyard”, was styled with lounging in a neutral colour palette with splashes of blue and bedazzled styled elements.
Creative design & styling with stunning white floral arrangements
One of the core design components we used to highlight the celebration of Chanukah was an exceptional lighting display. Striking light pods were suspended above the outdoor bar and hung strands of fairy lights studded the starlit nighttime sky. Accent uplights of pink, purple, green and blue highlighted the surrounding courtyard perimeter walls and indoor area adding a strikingly colourful and bright design element to the Bar Mitzah.
Live Entertainment for Bar Mitzvah
Stuart Lightbody, a world-renowned illusionist, entertained guests on arrival with his craftily blended optical illusions! Both adults and children were awed by his spectacular performance and unique brand of magic!
One of the defined instructions in our brief was to curate a celebration where both adults and children could have fun simultaneously. Being a very close-knit and sporting family who loves travelling, it was important for our clients to encompass these aspects in the Bar mitzvah, thereby high lighting the activities they loved doing together!
Keeping this in mind, we organised badminton, table tennis, handball and fooze ball as interactive activities for parents to enjoy with their children. Neon-face painting by Bazinga Parties and stunning gold tattoos formed part of the entertainment and guests showcased their artistic designs on the UV lit dance floor. A newly launched “green screen” photo booth with a selection of images from their favourite cities visited during their global travels provided fabulous and unique backdrops. Guests loved the entertaining props which made for some very funny and amusing keepsakes.
Interactive Food Stations
Slippery Spoon Kitchen, one of Cape Town’s top caterers well-known for both their delicious and artistically styled catering, created unique outdoor and indoor food stations where guests could design their own meals.
A Fritto Misto bar, a Yakatori stand and a Pizza & Pasta station with long strands of homemade pasta provided guests with varied and delicious refreshment options.

By including the concept of Chanukah into the catering, desserts incorporated a selection of sweet treats deep-fried in oil. From waffles, mini doughnuts, freshly made ice-cream cones filled with decadent homemade ice cream, an enormous pavlova filled with an assortment of fresh berries, crushed meringues, pancakes and giant puffs of candy floss – dessert was every child, and adult’s, dream!

Everyone knows Bar mitzvah’s and dancing go hand in hand and the celebrations were in high swing with DJ Shaun West at the helm from The Wedding DJ’s. Guests left the party happily exhausted after a night of lively dancing and lots of sporting activity!
