We began exactly where the Winelands feels most timeless — at Babylonstoren, with sunlit lawns, crisp white linen, and the kind of botanical beauty that makes you slow down and breathe it in.

Before lunch, guests were treated to a private wine cellar and garden tour — a gentle, elevated way to begin the celebration. Wandering through Babylonstoren’s abundant gardens (so alive with seasonal colour and produce) created a natural sense of wonder and connection — the ideal prelude to the afternoon ahead.
It also allowed the group to settle in, to feel the rhythm of the farm, and to experience Babylonstoren’s magic beyond the table.

Lunch was hosted on the lawns in front of the old wine cellar, with long tables dressed in clean whites, soft natural textures, and a relaxed-yet-refined outdoor layout — the kind of setting that feels luxurious precisely because it’s unpretentious.
The styling took its cue from Babylonstoren’s own breathtaking palette:
- sunshine yellows and fresh garden greens
- lavender and soft blues
- airy, meadow-like florals that felt freshly gathered and joyfully imperfect
Wild, elegant arrangements danced along the tables — delicate stems, seasonal blooms, and sculptural shapes that looked right at home against the bright lawn, white chairs, and open sky. Every detail was designed to feel considered, but never stiff — a celebration with ease.

A bespoke braai experience, curated exclusively for Shima’s guests
To anchor the day in something unmistakably local, we hosted an exclusive private South African barbeque (braai) — a true taste of the Cape, delivered with a polished, luxury finish.
From vibrant platters and beautifully shared dishes to the relaxed flow of service, the lunch felt generous and abundant — the kind of meal where conversation lingers, glasses refill, and time slows down exactly as it should on day one of a multi-day destination celebration.
Music, energy, and sunset dancing
Marimba on arrival, then a DJ on trumpet to lift the afternoon
As guests arrived, a South African marimba band welcomed them with warmth and rhythm — instantly setting the scene and creating that unmistakable feeling: this is not just lunch; this is an occasion.
Later, the energy rose beautifully with a DJ on trumpet, bringing high-impact, feel-good music that carried the group through golden hour. The lawns became a dance floor, the sky softened toward sunset, and the celebration shifted from refined daytime elegance into something joyfully electric.
It was the perfect “kickoff moment” — the kind that sets the tone for everything that follows.
